Audience Research

As part of our research before we make our music video we need to know how our target audience consume music and how they feel about music videos. In order to do this I thought about all of the things I would like to know about our target audience and wrote them down as questions. I then added the questions to a survey on SurveyMonkey and sent the link to my whole year group. Out off 88 people 21 of them answered my survey.

With SurveyMokey's useful analyse feature you can see a breakdown of the answers to all of the questions. The feedback I got will be extremely useful when we start to design our music video.

60% of my respondents said they preferred performance based music videos rather than story lines. This is good from my perspective as my idea is a performance based video however 40% is still a large amount so a hybrid of performance and a story could be the best idea. As it would not be good to isolate 40% of our target audience.

A resounding 80%of my respondents said that YouTube was their favourite platform to watch music videos on. With lots of devices like tablets and phones being used so commonly this is not surprising. As YouTube is the most popular way to watch music videos on it is very important the music video grabs attention from the first second. As with YouTube the user is in complete control so if the video is not eye catching the user can see a more appealing video come up as a suggested video and ignore ours.
